Sneak preview: nru, our new location and orientation-aware G1 Android app
December 16th, 2008
Having obtained a T-Mobile G1 in October with a rare combination of insouciance and eagerness, I thought it was high time we wrote something for it.
So, may we present nru (’near you’ — see what we’ve done there?). It’s a little application that makes use of the built-in GPS and compass to show you cool stuff near you.
It’s a tricky one to describe, so we’ve put together a video to give you the gist. You’ll see it being used to find nearby theatre shows and restaurant deals.
If you’re a G1 owner and you would like to roadtest an early prototype, please let us know by filling in the form on the right of the nru page.

Jenelia says...I am really excited about the Nru app for the G1. I hope it comes on the Market very soon. I live in the US so unfortunately, I am not able to have it. This seems like such a cool must-have application. Can’t wait for it!!

Corina says...Hallo,
I’m working for a venture capital company and we’re currently setting up a Mobile Download Portal. We would like to distribute your NRU mobile application for Android over our portal. We can offer you an alternative distribution channel besides the known portals.
If this sounds interesting to you, I would love to hear from you.
Best Regards,
Corina
